About the position

The Operations Coordinator at the Department of the Treasury's Office of Chief Counsel plays a crucial role in providing legal support and administrative functions. This position involves coordinating a variety of complex tasks, offering technical advice to support staff, and ensuring compliance with legal procedures. The Operations Coordinator will lead a team that assists attorneys and paralegals, ensuring efficient case processing and maintaining effective relationships within the IRS organization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and solutions to problems referred by support staff regarding Chief Counsel procedures.
  • Prepare a variety of administrative and legal documents such as cover letters, correspondence, reports, pleadings, and briefs.
  • Ensure all information on security policies and guidance is conveyed to employees and that security incidents are documented and reported.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with managers and employees at all levels of the IRS organization.
  • Handle or assist in the administration of the transit subsidy program for all staff located in the POD.
  • Monitor the status and progress of work, making day-to-day adjustments as needed.
  • Instruct support staff on specific tasks and job techniques, providing written instructions and reference materials.
  • Answer administrative and legal support questions for office employees on different procedures, policies, and directives.
  • Obtain needed information or decisions from attorneys or paralegals on problems that arise.
  • Provide training to new employees in accordance with established administrative procedures and practices.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in resolving non-technical problems and reviewing legal documents for adherence to policies.
  • Experience in evaluating office operations and recommending adjustments as needed.
  • Experience performing administrative office duties such as providing input on personnel actions and preparing requisitions.
  • Experience providing training to employees.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • LL.M. in a field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the position.
