About the position

The Open Rank Tenure System Faculty Position in Animation Arts at The University of Texas at Dallas is a multidisciplinary role aimed at enhancing the academic and creative landscape of the Bass School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. The position seeks candidates with a strong background in the animation industry, particularly those experienced in contemporary digital storytelling tools and methodologies. Faculty members will be responsible for teaching, mentoring students, and contributing to innovative research and public-facing programming, with a focus on producing nationally recognized creative works.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses annually at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Mentor undergraduate capstone students.
  • Contribute to public-facing programming.
  • Develop creative works or research programs that are nationally recognized for innovation and excellence.
  • Engage in service within the academic unit, the university, and the profession as appropriate based on teaching and research constraints.

Requirements

  • An MFA, PhD, or equivalent in animation or a related discipline is required prior to employment.
  • A track record of accomplishments commensurate with the rank for applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with a range of contemporary digital storytelling tools and methodologies, including sequential image-based techniques, visual storytelling media, video art, positional storytelling, and narrative design.
  • At least one animated film with a record of inclusion in film festivals.
