About the position
The Oncology Patient Advocate at Regions Hospital plays a crucial role in guiding patients through their cancer journey, ensuring they receive the necessary support and information regarding their treatment and insurance benefits. This full-time position involves direct interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and community services to facilitate a seamless continuum of care for oncology patients.
Responsibilities
- Guide patients throughout their cancer journey and across the continuum of care.
- Meet with new treatment patients to review insurance benefits and counsel them on co-payment responsibilities.
- Assist patients in obtaining outside assistance such as transportation and community services.
- Communicate regularly with patients, physicians, nursing staff, and members of the care team.
- Verify primary and secondary insurance before scheduling the first visit.
- Review chemotherapy protocols and determine insurance benefits and patient responsibility.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in health sciences.
- 3 years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interactions.
