About the position

The Oncology Patient Advocate at Regions Hospital plays a crucial role in guiding patients through their cancer journey, ensuring they receive the necessary support and information regarding their treatment and insurance benefits. This full-time position involves direct interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and community services to facilitate a seamless continuum of care for oncology patients.

Responsibilities

  • Guide patients throughout their cancer journey and across the continuum of care.
  • Meet with new treatment patients to review insurance benefits and counsel them on co-payment responsibilities.
  • Assist patients in obtaining outside assistance such as transportation and community services.
  • Communicate regularly with patients, physicians, nursing staff, and members of the care team.
  • Verify primary and secondary insurance before scheduling the first visit.
  • Review chemotherapy protocols and determine insurance benefits and patient responsibility.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in health sciences.
  • 3 years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in social work.
