About the position

The Oiler position involves performing engine room watches at sea or in port, assisting higher-rated engineers, and maintaining machinery on board vessels. This role is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the ship's engineering systems and requires a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engine room watches at sea or in port.
  • Monitor and record gauge readings.
  • Assist higher-rated engineers in starting and operating machinery.
  • Clean around machinery and perform routine servicing, including lubricating and cleaning.
  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of machinery.
  • Load engineering department supplies and clean spaces.
  • Assist in ship fueling operations.
  • Perform other mission-related duties as assigned, including safety-related tasks.

Requirements

  • Must possess a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential with Medical Certificate.
  • Current STCW certificate III/4, Rating Forming Part of Engineering Watch (RFPEW) Oiler.
  • Oiler or Qualified Member of the Engineering Department (QMED) - Any Rating endorsement on the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of standing engineering watches.
  • Ability to maintain and operate the ship's auxiliary machinery equipment.
  • Knowledge of fueling boats/launches and assisting in ship fueling operations.
  • Skill in computer, oral, and written communication.
