About the position

The City of Richmond is seeking a part-time Office Clerk-Cashier for its Aquatics Program within the Recreation Department. This seasonal position is ideal for individuals who possess strong organizational skills and effective communication abilities. The Office Clerk-Cashier will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties related to aquatic programs, including handling monetary transactions, providing customer service, and maintaining office operations. The role may also involve assisting with special projects in either the Recreation or Finance departments, depending on staffing needs. In this position, the Office Clerk-Cashier will receive and account for payments from swimming class registrations, pool usage, and equipment rentals. The individual will conduct sales transactions, operate cash registers, and perform record-keeping tasks. Customer interaction is a key component of this role, as the clerk will provide information and assistance to patrons both in person and over the phone, explaining programs, policies, and procedures. Additionally, the clerk will enforce facility rules, maintain the office area, control access to the facility, and ensure the security of patrons' belongings. The role also requires administering first aid and CPR when necessary, emphasizing the importance of customer service and safety in all interactions. Responsibilities

  • Assist administrative staff with clerical and office responsibilities as needed.
  • Receive and account for monies from swimming class registration, pool usage, and equipment rental.
  • Conduct sales transactions and operate the cash register and other office equipment.
  • Perform record keeping and related clerical duties.
  • Provide information and assistance to customers and patrons in person and over the telephone.
  • Explain programs, policies, and procedures to patrons.
  • Enforce facility rules and regulations.
  • Maintain efficient functioning of the office area.
  • Control admittance to the facility.
  • Provide security for patrons' personal belongings checked into the baggage claim area.
  • Administer first aid and CPR as needed.
  • Understand and perform customer service to all patrons.

Requirements

  • Must be at least fifteen (15) years of age.
  • Graduation from or currently enrolled in an educational institution working toward a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates are required for positions assigned to aquatics facilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including filing and operation of standard office equipment.
  • Basic use of 10-key adding machine or cash register.
  • Basic business data processing principles and the use of word processing or personal computing equipment.

Benefits

  • Hourly salary ranging from $17.65 to $21.42.
  • 4% Cost-of-Living Adjustment effective 01/01/2025.
