About The Position

Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission. ESH invites applications for the position of Occupational Therapist (Therapist III). This position will provide individualized occupational therapy evaluations, consultations, and treatments to meet the physical and psychiatric needs of patients. Facilitate development and rehabilitation of clients with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering occupational therapy medically ordered by the physician. Provide supervision to occupational therapy assistants and ensure the delivery of exceptional care. Fully support the functions of Physical Rehab Department. Multiple positions may be hired from this recruitment. This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency, pandemic, or facility need. All ESH positions are required to work different shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays, and/or overtime as requested.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an Accredited Occupational Therapy Program, accompanied with experience that would meet the requirements for certification.
  • Current Occupational Therapy Certification / licensure with the Virginia Board of NBCOT.
  • Must be licensed within 6 (six) months of employment as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience working with psychiatric patients and patients with physical disabilities in a clinical setting in Occupational Therapy and in activity programs.
  • Experience working with work programs and evaluations to assist with job placements.
  • Experience working with forensic patients.
