About the position

The Occupational Therapist will ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained while providing therapy services to patients and supervising therapy assistants. This role involves evaluating patients' functional status, developing treatment programs, and communicating plans of care to referring physicians and other professionals. The therapist may also teach new skills, fabricate splints, and train patients in the use of adaptive equipment. Maintaining clinical records and participating in discharge planning are also key responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient's functional status including muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, and self-care ability.
  • Identify equipment needs and participate in the development of the total plan of care.
  • Perform work capacity evaluations for patients planning to return to work.
  • Develop treatment programs and establish goals for improved function.
  • Communicate plan of care to referring physician and other professionals.
  • Teach new skills or retrain patients in daily activities lost due to illness or injury.
  • Fabricate splints and instruct patients in the use of adaptive equipment.
  • Train patients in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical records and report changes in patient's condition.
  • Maintain communication with other personnel involved in patient care.
  • Attend and contribute to in-services, case conferences, and meetings.
  • Identify patient and family/caregiver needs and refer as appropriate.
  • Instruct patient's family/caregiver and other personnel in treatment regime.
  • Supervise certified occupational therapy assistants.
  • Participate in discharge planning for patients.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy curriculum.
  • Registered with the National Registration Examination of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Current and valid therapy license in the state employed.
  • Familiarity with general computer use, including programs, files, and internet navigation.
  • Good verbal and written communication and organization skills.
  • Licensed driver with an insured automobile in good working order.
  • Capability of performing job functions with or without accommodation.
  • Active AHA CPR certification if applying for an Outpatient position.

Nice-to-haves
