About The Position

Sets up and breaks down catering functions within Children’s Hospital, ensuring appropriate set-up of conference rooms. Obtains food from various locations, prepares and delivers carts with necessary food and non-food items, maintains catering equipment, and works in other Nutrition Services positions (e.g., cafeteria attendant) as necessary. This role involves reviewing catering worksheets, verifying conference room schedules, setting up rooms, and coordinating with Environmental Services for room setup and cleaning. The attendant identifies and gathers required food and non-food items, prepares and delivers supply carts, and maintains communication with Nutrition Services via pager for priority changes. Food service may include banquet style serving or beverages and desserts. Post-function duties include equipment collection and room cleanup. The role also requires maintaining catering equipment, reporting issues or missing items, managing supply levels, suggesting equipment needs, and keeping the catering storeroom organized. Additionally, the attendant will serve as back-up in other Nutrition Services positions such as cafeteria attendant, cashier, cook, or dishroom attendant as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements.
  • Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.
  • Organizational skills required to schedule workload to set up multiple functions within required timeframes.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to respond to sudden changes in work schedule and maintain composure in stressful situations.
  • Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with hospital administration, other Nutrition Services personnel, other hospital employees, and the public.
  • Ability to operate van with lift gate.
  • Three months experience in food service or other service-oriented field, required.

Responsibilities

  • Review catering worksheets to identify functions and verify conference room scheduling.
  • Set up conference rooms and confer with event organizers regarding room setup.
  • Contact Environmental Services for issues with cleaning or table and chair setup.
  • Identify, obtain, and prepare food and non-food items for functions.
  • Deliver supply carts to the correct locations.
  • Maintain communication with Nutrition Services via pager for priority changes and report problems to supervisor.
  • Serve food banquet style and/or serve desserts and beverages as needed.
  • Collect equipment and clean rooms after functions.
  • Maintain catering equipment, check its condition, and notify supervisor of problems.
  • Report missing items after a catering function.
  • Maintain targeted levels of supplies in various hospital areas.
  • Suggest the need for additional equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the catering storeroom.
  • Serve as back-up in other Nutrition Services positions (e.g., cafeteria attendant, cashier, cook, dishroom attendant) as needed.
