About the position

The Nutrition Assistant position at Mecklenburg County is a non-exempt role focused on supporting the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. The role involves working under direct supervision within an interdisciplinary team to perform general nutrition functions, assist with nutritional assessments, and educate clients on healthy eating. The position aims to contribute to public health by promoting healthy lifestyles and responding to urgent public health needs.

Responsibilities

  • Check in visiting patients
  • Obtain and document anthropometric data including height, weight, and hemoglobin for nutritionists to assess
  • Route clients to the next step in the workflow process
  • Maintain labs to meet infection control standards
  • Monitor supplies needed for lab and alert supervisor appropriately
  • Assist with providing basic nutrition plans and dietary care to patients
  • Conduct nutritional assessments of dietary histories
  • Assist nutritionists in food service planning
  • Educate clients on healthy eating and nutrition
  • Respond in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public health interventions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of human services or related experience
  • Post high school Medical Assistant certificate program
  • May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Medical Assistant Certificate
