About the position
The position involves assisting the Registered Nurse in providing patient care based on an individualized plan for each patient. The role includes performing basic nursing activities, nursing activities requiring sterile technique, and additional clinical responsibilities as necessary for the patient population served. Responsibilities include conducting data collection, monitoring and documenting patient status, ensuring confidentiality of patient information, and utilizing safe patient handling practices. The individual will inform the RN of activities performed, observations of patients, and any changes in patient status while maintaining a clean and neat patient environment.
Responsibilities
- Provides patient care as delegated by the RN, including sterile and non-sterile soaks, application of sterile and non-sterile dressings, perineal care, removal of Foley catheters, basic ostomy care, nasal cannula, phlebotomy, EKGs, and incentive spirometry.
- Performs data collection including vital signs, fluid intake and output, and specimen collection, documenting and maintaining data on medical records and informing the RN of activities performed and changes in patient status.
- Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by the RN, reporting lab values to the RN.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living and helps transport patients to diagnostic studies and their floor assignments.
- Assists with positioning and ambulating patients, fall prevention interventions, and patient restraints as delegated.
- Provides and documents comfort and non-pharmacological pain management measures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Job-related course work such as Nursing Assistant, PCT, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Technology, or Phlebotomy preferred.
- No experience required; one (1) year of experience in Nursing Assistant, PCT, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, Phlebotomist, or Medical Corpsman preferred.
- Licensed or certified in the field of training (Nursing Assistant, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, Phlebotomy, etc.).
Nice-to-haves
- In lieu of education and licensure/certification above, will accept medical corpsman military training.
