About the position

The Nursery & Procurement Manager at Outdoor Environments Group LLC is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the plant nursery and procurement department. This role involves collaborating with project managers, landscape architects, and vendors to ensure effective management of plant health, supplier relationships, and purchase order processes. The position emphasizes quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction in delivering exceptional outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate potential landscaping suppliers based on quality, price, reliability, and delivery capabilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors to secure favorable pricing and delivery terms.
  • Monitor supplier performance regarding on-time delivery, quality control, and compliance with company standards.
  • Forecast demand for landscaping materials based on project schedules and seasonal fluctuations.
  • Manage plant health and cultivation, including recommending and implementing solutions for issues like pests and diseases.
  • Oversee staff assignments, schedules, and train staff on visual appeal.
  • Oversee plant inventory including forecasting demand and maintaining breeding records.
  • Oversee the nursery building, equipment, and facility, including coordinating maintenance and repairs.
  • Open the nursery in the morning and close at the end of the business day.
  • Hire and train nursery staff.
  • Order stock, including soil, stones, fertilizers, shrubs, plants, flowers, and trees.
  • Monitor watering times, soil conditions, and plant positions.
  • Monitor weather conditions and pay special attention to hot or cold temperatures.
  • Respond to field operations personnel requests and assist the nursery staff.
  • Review and process purchase orders for materials, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Research types of materials and various vendors to ensure high quality and client satisfaction.
  • Provide purchase order administration and invoicing support.
  • Track all field-related purchases, inspections, field documentation, submittals, and RFL's.

Requirements

  • Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience with landscape/construction industry purchasing/procurement.
  • Extensive knowledge of plant materials required.
  • Experience managing and processing purchase orders.
  • Experience with vendor pricing solicitations and bid leveling.
  • Proficient in software such as Excel, Word, Google Suite; experience with Boss or equivalent system is a plus.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Indiana Applicators License 3A and 3B Pesticide License.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and approach to overcoming challenges.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and manage multiple priorities.
