About the position

The Nurse Resident (RNI) Winter Cohort 2025 at Shady Grove Medical Center is designed for recent nursing graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in a supportive environment. This program emphasizes the integration of clinical skills and theoretical knowledge through a structured learning experience, including clinical rotations and classroom assignments. The Nurse Resident will work closely with experienced preceptors and educators to enhance their nursing competencies while fulfilling the requirements of the residency program.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all assigned learning activities and clinical experiences.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for all activities.
  • Complete all clinical and classroom assignments with a minimum passing grade of 80%.
  • Rotate shifts according to the program and/or preceptor's schedule.
  • Be responsible for all costs associated with required books, materials, equipment, and transportation.
  • Work closely with preceptor, CNS, educators, and program coordinator to maximize learning.
  • Participate in regular evaluation sessions to provide and obtain feedback on performance and the Nurse Residency Program.
  • Complete competency documentation and an Evidence-Based Practice Project prior to program completion.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited ASN, BSN, or MSN program within 8 months prior to cohort start date.
  • Must have a GPA of 2.75 or higher when applying.
  • Licensed as an RN in the state of MD or compact state is required.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) is required.
  • ACLS certification is required for intensive care units and PACU, can be obtained after employment.
  • Solid analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and handle a multi-task environment is essential.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
