The Nurse Residency Program at UCLA Health is a comprehensive initiative designed for new graduate nurses who have recently completed their BSN or MSN degree programs. This program lasts approximately one year and aims to facilitate a smooth transition into professional nursing practice. It is specifically tailored for individuals who have graduated between June 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024, providing them with the necessary resources and support to thrive in their new roles. Participants in the program will undergo an extensive orientation to the UCLA hospital systems, nursing department, and standards of care. This includes access to a clinical skills lab where they can refine their practical skills. Throughout the residency year, nurses will attend monthly education sessions that focus on critical topics such as leadership, patient outcomes, and professionalism. Each resident will also benefit from unit-based orientation and educational programs, ensuring they are well-prepared for their specific nursing environments. To further enhance their learning experience, residents will be paired with unit-based preceptors and mentors who will guide them through their initial months of practice. Additionally, they will have access to clinical nurse specialists and clinical educators who will provide ongoing support and education. Opportunities for new graduates are available across various locations, including Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, and UCLA West Valley Medical Center. The program encompasses a wide range of specialties, including Adult ICU, Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, Medical ICU, General ICU, Burn Center, Emergency Department, Med Surg, Telemetry, Intermediate Care Unit Cardiology, Pediatric Oncology, Geriatrics, Oncology, Neuropsychiatric Hospital, and Operating Room Services. As part of the application process, candidates will be prompted to select their preferred choices for new grad placement. The program is set to commence in March 2025, and applicants must have graduated from a registered nursing program within the specified timeframe. While a California RN license is not required at the time of application, it must be obtained before the start date. This program is an excellent opportunity for new graduate nurses to launch their careers in a supportive and dynamic environment.
