About the position

The Family Nurse Practitioner or MD Family Practice Provider will be part of an expanding clinic aimed at supporting the needs of both providers and patients. This role involves collaboration with other health center personnel and physicians to enhance the efficiency and comprehensiveness of healthcare delivery, while improving quality in accordance with PCHC policies, Rhode Island laws, and established standards of care. The position encompasses responsibilities across the life cycle, including care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients, as appropriate for the provider's training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Take a complete medical history and perform physical examinations on PCHC patients as clinically appropriate.
  • Diagnose and treat common medical problems within the provider's specific fields of competence.
  • Consult with the appropriate PCHC physician at the health center or on call, or with the Associate Medical Director as needed, in accordance with PCHC policies and procedures.
  • Manage acute and chronic illnesses, collaborating with the PCHC M.D. and coordinating care with other health center members and external services.
  • Provide patient education and preventive medicine as clinically indicated.
  • Offer counseling and support in areas of social problems, recognizing the emotional component of illness, and making referrals to mental health professionals as needed.

Requirements

  • Education - RN and Family Nurse Practitioner training program in an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure as RN and as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges in Rhode Island.
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • Compliance with prescribed standards for continuing education as set by appropriate state or national advisory boards.
  • Experience - One year in a community health setting.
