About the position

The Nurse Practitioner/PA works as a team member in our Urgent Care and with Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) patients in our Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program in providing primary and urgent care to patients, discriminating cases acceptable for independent management from those requiring consultation/referral to supervising physician or to other resources in the clinic or community. Makes outside referrals after consulting with staff physician if needed. Performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission of Peoples Community Health Clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Overall knowledge and application in practicing specialty.
  • Ability to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care practices.
  • Demonstrates both an understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve and optimize health care.
  • Applies knowledge to educate patients and others.
  • Establishes and maintains professional and collaborative relationships with peers and members of the health team.
  • Creates and sustains a therapeutic and ethically sound relationship with patients and patient's families and provides opportunity for the involvement in the plan of care.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to patients' race, culture, gender, religion, ethnic background, sexual preference, language, mental capacity, and physical disability.
  • Develops an understanding of and coordinates patient care according to the patient centered Medical Home model.
  • Maintains an accurate electronic medical record to support clinical and business documentation requirements.
  • Develops and maintains own competence.
  • Assists in control of Peoples Community Health Clinic resources.

Requirements

  • Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner/PA program.
  • Board certified in specialty or eligible.
  • Previous health care experience preferred.
  • Must complete all requirements necessary for the practice of medicine in Iowa including state agreements for payment of health services under Medicare and Medicaid, DEA permission to prescribe and maintain controlled substances, hospital privileges at local facilities, malpractice insurability, Iowa medical license.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with typical work hours between Monday and Friday, 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. with rotating weekend coverage (approximately every 1:8 Saturdays).
  • Some flexibility in hours is allowed.
