About the position

The Urgent Care Physician Assistant works as part of an inter-professional team to provide efficient, high quality, cost effective care in the outpatient clinic setting, telehealth visit, and occupational medicine. Works under the supervision of a Medical Director and in a collaborative practice model within the scope of licensing and credentialing and in accordance with privileges allowed. Obtains patient history and performs assessments using interview, observation and physical examination and orders and interprets diagnostic testing as needed for patient care and provides direct patient care and management of health conditions utilizing prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers. Participates in quality improvement initiatives, staff development and education, patient and patient caregiver education and assumes responsibility for professional development. Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
  • Maintains an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
  • Provides education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
  • Performs duties including but not limited to ordering and interpreting radiology tests, Point of Care Testing and lab testing, EKG reading, minor procedures (lacerations, incision and drainage abscesses), and pediatric population (6 month and older).
  • Provides training and education to staff, including new APPs and students.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
  • Licensed in the state of practice as a Physician Assistant.
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Eligible for Prescriptive Authority within the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years’ related working experience.
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Medical Examiner Certification and registration with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.
