About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Gastroenterology at Auburn Memorial Medical Services will provide comprehensive medical care to patients in an outpatient setting. This role involves direct patient care, collaboration with attending physicians, and participation in patient care conferences. The NP will be responsible for evaluating patients, administering diagnostic tests, and ensuring quality patient care while maintaining confidentiality and responsiveness to patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to patients in the outpatient setting.
  • Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
  • Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and patient care.
  • Compile and record patient medical data, including health notes and results of physical examinations.
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests such as x-rays and laboratory tests.
  • Participate in patient care conferences as appropriate.
  • Discuss current trends in management of patients within the specialty area.
  • Execute nursing care plans requiring specialized clinical expertise.
  • Recognize and address concurrent medical problems that challenge the patient.
  • Assist with communication of discharge plans to patients and families.
  • Obtain results of diagnostic studies and initiate further treatment in collaboration with attending physician.
  • Demonstrate commitment to providing quality patient care to a specialized group of patients.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate responsiveness to patients and families.
  • Interpret medical/nursing management to patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Discuss stages of death and dying and appropriate interventions.
  • Stay updated on new developments in the specialized area of expertise.
  • Identify appropriate personnel for specific problems and involve other health professionals in patient management.
  • Demonstrate competence in crisis situations and recognize critical changes in patient status.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner certification.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
