About the position

The Nurse Manager provides leadership, clinical practice and staff development for one nursing unit, and is responsible for assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating nursing practice at the unit level. The Nurse Manager is accountable to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical and support staff, and appropriate resource and service management related to patient care. The Nurse Manager must also ensure services and care are provided abiding by the policies and procedures of the organization, demonstrate fiscal responsibility and accountability. The Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for implementing executive strategies into frontline reality by effectively and efficiently managing and leading in area(s) of responsibility for the strategic, financial and human resource plans, performance improvement initiatives, appropriate clinical practice knowledge and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement nursing's strategic plan, ensuring integration into overall strategic goals and objectives.
  • Understand and share the strategic plan of the organization including roles, timelines, milestones and resource utilization.
  • Improve employee engagement through collaboration and recognition of team members for great performance.
  • Contribute to the retention of staff by providing supportive and mentoring relationships.
  • Develop, communicate and monitor performance expectations collaboratively.
  • Promote a results-oriented environment and ensure effective communication regarding department successes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support a Just Culture Model that recognizes and fosters a system for reporting unsafe practices.
  • Responsible for ongoing improvement of quality and performance metrics including core measures, hospital acquired infections, safety initiatives and patient experience.
  • Monitor and evaluate service indicators in collaboration with related team members.
  • Facilitate education of employees related to service excellence and role model behaviors of service excellence and CARE values.
  • Assume responsibility for continuous growth, development of employees and daily operations of the unit.
  • Serve as an organizational change agent and formulate unit objectives, goals, and specific strategies consistent with those of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all providers and advocate for multi-disciplinary team involvement in major changes.
  • Lead in developing staffing efficiencies, service excellence, employee satisfaction and continuous improvement in quality outcomes.
  • Promote the Mission, Vision, philosophy, code of ethics and CARE values of the organization.
  • Ensure that the performance improvement program is interdisciplinary and aligned with that of the organization.
  • Cultivate and sustain a culture of innovation, continual learning and accountability.
  • Attend leadership classes offered by the leadership development team and collaborate to improve quality metrics using established process improvement technologies.
  • Monitor and manage unit finances and productivity, justifying monthly variances and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and JHS policies.
  • Design and implement flexible staffing models to assure adequate staff provision for patient care while meeting unit targets.
  • Provide a professional environment that is physically, emotionally and psychologically safe for nurses.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience.
  • Management experience is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Valid Florida RN license is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 4 years experience as a nurse leader, strongly preferred.
