About the position

The Nurse Manager for the Cancer Center at the University of Kansas Health System is responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the unit, ensuring high-quality patient care, and maintaining cost-efficient operations. This role involves supporting the hospital's mission, strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation while managing the nursing department's policies and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve business and organization goals, visions, and objectives.
  • Administer corrective action to employees not meeting job requirements.
  • Analyze, report, and develop strategies to improve quality and satisfaction.
  • Create and manage the unit budget, monitoring staffing, supplies, travel, equipment, volume, revenue, charges, education, and food.
  • Identify problems and provide solutions and courses of action.
  • Interact positively and professionally, demonstrating conflict resolution skills.
  • Maintain a presence on the unit and engage with staff and patients.
  • Involve in employee selection, career development, succession planning, and training.
  • Model professional nursing practice through collaboration with staff, leadership, patients, families, and physicians.
  • Serve as a mentor for staff developing into leadership roles.
  • Supervise and manage the overall performance and technical competencies of staff.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) in the State of Kansas
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) certification within 14 days of hire
  • 2 or more years of management experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Master Degree in Nursing
  • Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) from ANCC
