About the position

The National Security Internship Program (NSIP) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) offers highly qualified students the opportunity to engage in research and development critical to national security, focusing on preventing and countering terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Interns will work in various focus areas, including applied radiation detection, analytical chemistry, nuclear material processing, and more, contributing to the lab's mission of safeguarding national security through innovative science and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in research and development projects related to national security, energy, and science.
  • Engage in applied research in areas such as chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosives measurement.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop and apply advanced detection and analysis techniques.
  • Contribute to projects that support interdiction, emergency response, and treaty verification.
  • Work in one of seven focus areas based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a Master's program at an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3 required.

  • Disciplines of interest include acoustics, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, computer science, electrical engineering, forensic analysis, nuclear engineering, and more.
