About The Position

AZACS is growing and seeking to fill the role of Non-Certified Classroom Teacher for grades 4th-12th at our Phoenix Main Campus. AZACS was recognized with the 2023/2024 National ESEA Distinguished Schools Award for Arizona and the 2022 YASS Prize for innovation in education. Our AZACS Teacher’s Academy offers individuals with a bachelor's degree the opportunity to advance their careers through practical experience, thorough training, and mentorship from certified education professionals. The Classroom Teacher will be responsible for implementing instruction within a classroom setting, guided by campus leadership. This role involves teaching AZACS's adopted curriculum and students' IEP goals within the AZACS structured classroom model, under the supervision of campus leadership. Candidates should have prior experience in classroom teaching and ABA strategies, preferably within school environments. The ability to receive training, coaching, and to motivate behavioral staff is essential. The Classroom Teacher will collaborate closely with the SPED Campus Leadership and the ABA Manager to execute a best-practice education model aimed at achieving optimal outcomes for students with autism spectrum disorder and related conditions.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in a classroom environment is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Enrollment in the AZACS Teaching Certification program or a college/university certification program is required after obtaining a bachelor's degree
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
  • Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers, and professional contacts courteously and professionally, and follow AZACS guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in structured teaching, center-based model preferred
  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Consistent and regular attendance is a key requirement of this position

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead teacher and point person in a classroom
  • Work with a classroom team that includes a classroom teacher
  • Ensure that the classroom support staff are implementing instructional strategies and lessons as set forth
  • Create a safe and effective learning environment
  • Weekly lesson planning for instruction of state standards
  • Provide daily feedback to support staff
  • Participate in regular observations and in-the-moment coaching from campus leadership, and report data with high fidelity and analyze data bi-weekly to make instructional decisions
  • Regular parent communication following AZACS guidelines
  • Modification of materials to meet student needs and IEP requirements
  • Maintain substitute plans in case of absence
  • Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an AZACS faculty member
  • Contribute to IEPs as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration
  • Set up of lessons and instructional activities for classroom support staff
  • Coaches, monitors, and mentors classroom support staff working with students with disabilities
