About the position

Visitor Services Associates are responsible for greeting park visitors, selling vehicle admission stickers, registering campers, fielding questions about the park or property and recreation opportunities, along with a variety of other administrative and financial duties. The Park Technician is responsible for a combination of general maintenance and repair work, outdoor maintenance, and groundskeeping work. Recreation Operation Technicians often operate machinery such as UTV's, skid steers, chainsaws, hand tools, power tools, mowers, equipment transport, and other motorized vehicles. The Park Technician Advanced performs a combination of general maintenance and repair work of a semi-skilled nature to various building types and equipment, including but not limited to park buildings, electrical, plumbing, power tools and vehicles. Work at this level is more complex in nature than the entry level position and this position may occasionally direct and coordinate the work of other facilities repair workers, inmates, students or Limited Term Employees on projects, but is not considered a leadworker.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors, collect and account for fees and disseminate information.
  • Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area.
  • Distribute brochures, maps and provide directions/routes of travel throughout the park.
  • Issue admission receipts in accordance with established guidelines.
  • General maintenance and cleaning as required to meet the operational needs of the property.
  • Perform maintenance of facilities and grounds to ensure they conform to established standards.
  • Manage properties and their facilities to protect public health and safety.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, power tools, sprayers, etc.
  • Fill and grade park roads, patch blacktop, and maintain culverts and shoulders.
  • Perform facility improvement projects by repairing windows, doors, screens, and walls.
  • Perform minor repairs to water, electrical and heating systems.
  • Mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches.
  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as tractors, snow removal equipment, dozers, trenchers, sprayers, mowers, etc.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
  • Customer service and cash handling experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working with computers.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience of general maintenance operation.
  • Building and/or facility repair or maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge and skills in basic carpentry and minor electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Knowledge and experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to work a modified schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
