About the position

Hatch is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer to join its team in Columbus, OH. This entry-level position is designed for recent graduates who will provide engineering analysis, design, and construction observation support for various water, wastewater, and site development projects. The role involves working under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) and collaborating with project teams to ensure compliance with client requirements and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Civil Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule.
  • Prepare Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) in consultation with the Lead Civil Engineer.
  • Perform conceptual and detailed engineering design.
  • Prepare engineering calculations.
  • Prepare technical specifications.
  • Prepare data sheets.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise.
  • Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
  • Prepare and/or review project procedures, standard specifications and design criteria.
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
  • Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule.
  • Assist in defining project scope.
  • Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists.
  • Ensure co-ordination with designers and engineers within the civil discipline and with other disciplines.
  • Construction supervision and management dependent upon project demands.
  • Assist in the commissioning on site as required.
  • Assist in compilation and incorporate the safety in design plan.

Requirements

  • A recent or soon to be graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to achieving engineering excellence.
  • A desire to learn and continually develop.
  • E.I.T. Registration is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internship or co-op experience working on civil, site, and storm-water management design projects is preferred.
