About the position

The Network Planning Engineer Intern B position is designed for students or recent graduates pursuing a degree in Information Technology or related fields. The intern will provide technical support for a large enterprise network IP service, focusing on network architecture design, performance evaluation, and troubleshooting. This role offers hands-on experience in network planning and engineering, allowing the intern to apply their academic knowledge in a practical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for a large enterprise network IP service.
  • Conduct network architecture design, feasibility, and modeling.
  • Design, analyze, plan, and modify network components and/or software based on customer requirements.
  • Develop and evaluate network performance criteria and measurement methods.
  • Monitor alarm conditions on the network to proactively identify and minimize disruptions.
  • Utilize test methods to analyze and troubleshoot Ethernet, IP, Frame Relay, ATM, WAN, and LAN.
  • Collaborate with Local Exchange Carriers, ILECs, and IXCs to resolve WAN problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering with a network focus, or Computer Science with a Communications/Network focus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of WAN/LAN, TDM, and VoIP technologies.
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP, Frame Relay, ATM, and specific routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, BGP, and EIGRP.
  • Understanding of DWDM, CTI, and/or VPN technologies.
  • Knowledge of Optical Carrier specifications ranging from OC3 to OC192.
  • Comprehension of digital signaling ranging from DS0 through DS3.
  • Cisco certifications (such as CCNA and CCNP).
  • Systems administration skills.
