About the position

The Network Assurance Engineer II is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of IP, Optical, and Access networks. This role involves proactive monitoring of network health, identifying configuration issues, and preventing potential outages. The engineer will analyze network configurations to avoid connectivity loss or performance degradation and support outage management for incident and problem resolution, requiring strong troubleshooting skills and a focus on operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily health checks of IP, Optical, and Access networks, investigate alarms, detect failures, and implement resolutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, perform root cause analysis, and analyze error logs to implement solutions.
  • Serve as 24x7 escalation support to Network Assurance and NOC teams to achieve MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) goals.
  • Develop backup plans and organize system maintenance to prevent interruptions.
  • Provide operational support for the provisioning and management of core infrastructure, including Core Routers, CMTS, Aggregation Routers, Switches, and Transport platforms like DWDM and TDM.
  • Maintain network integrity by performing maintenance of IP, Optical, and Access networks, including hardware and software configuration validation.
  • Create and maintain service performance and health reports.
  • Plan and track projects, providing updates and presentations as needed.
  • Guide technical staff, mentor junior engineers, lead work groups, and deliver training as required.

Requirements

  • BS degree required or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of work experience required, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
  • Certifications preferred such as JUNIPER, CISCO, ARISTA, etc.
  • Proficient in IP networking fundamentals, including TCP, UDP, RTP, DNS, TFTP, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, and SCTP.
  • Strong knowledge of BGP, OSPF, and MPLS protocols, with experience in IP Multicast.
  • Ability to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a specific area or system, with solid knowledge across various areas of specialization.
  • Experience with Optical Platforms and networking equipment from vendors such as Juniper, Nokia, Arista, IP Infusion, and Calix PON.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and understand process flows.
  • Proficient with industry-standard test equipment and network tracing tools such as Wireshark.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the OSI model, especially as it pertains to unified communications services.
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Applications i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Service NOW Ticket Systems.
