About the position
The Network Administrator 1 / Net Ops Specialist at Fort Johnson is responsible for managing, monitoring, and maintaining the organization's network infrastructure. This role ensures network security, reliability, and efficiency while adhering to Department of Defense (DOD) standards. The specialist collaborates with a team of IT professionals to provide seamless network operations, troubleshoot issues, and implement network improvements.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network equipment.
- Continuously monitor network performance, identify and resolve network issues, and ensure minimal downtime.
- Ensure network operations are in compliance with DOD 8140 standards and other applicable regulations, including implementing and maintaining security protocols.
- Apply updates, patches, and configuration changes to network devices to maintain security and operational efficiency.
- Maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams, configuration files, and incident reports.
- Work with cross-functional teams to support network-related projects and initiatives.
- Provide technical support to end-users for network-related issues and ensure prompt resolution.
- Participate in the development and implementation of network disaster recovery plans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in network administration or a related field.
- Must meet DOD 8140 requirements, including relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, or equivalent.
- Must possess an active Secret Clearance.
- Proficiency in network management tools, protocols, and technologies (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, VPNs, firewalls).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to handle complex network issues.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel.
