About the position

The National Director of Advancement will lead the strategic direction and execution of fundraising, donor relations, corporate partnerships, and marketing initiatives to support the mission and growth. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive advancement strategies to increase philanthropic support from individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government entities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to expand revenue streams through major gifts, annual giving, grants, planned giving, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporate donors.
  • Lead grant writing efforts and oversee the management of grant proposals, compliance, and reporting.
  • Develop and execute fundraising campaigns, including capital campaigns, peer-to-peer fundraising, and digital giving strategies.
  • Establish key performance metrics and track progress toward fundraising goals.
  • Design and implement donor recognition programs to enhance engagement and long-term giving.
  • Develop targeted stewardship plans to ensure meaningful donor interactions and retention.
  • Work with the CEO and board members to leverage their networks for donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Oversee donor communications, including newsletters, annual reports, and impact stories.
  • Identify and secure corporate sponsorships and strategic partnerships to support organizational programs and initiatives.
  • Develop strong relationships with foundation representatives and oversee the submission of compelling grant proposals.
  • Manage sponsorship fulfillment and ensure partners receive agreed-upon benefits.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to align fundraising efforts with brand messaging and outreach.
  • Develop marketing materials, case statements, and digital content to support fundraising and awareness-building efforts.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, donor events, and public engagements to enhance visibility and influence.
  • Lead and mentor a team of fundraising and advancement professionals to drive results and professional growth.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors and Advancement Committee to enhance fundraising efforts and board engagement.
  • Ensure adherence to fundraising ethics and compliance with all nonprofit regulations and guidelines.
  • Other duties as identified by leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, marketing, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, advancement, or philanthropy.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with experience in mentoring and developing staff.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and public speaking abilities.
  • Experience working with donor CRM systems and data-driven fundraising strategies.
  • Ability to travel as needed for donor meetings and organizational events.
