About the position

The Museum Collections Coordinator/Registrar is a part-time role responsible for the management and research of museum collections, including artifacts and archives. This position supports the museum's exhibition and educational programming while ensuring compliance with applicable standards. The coordinator will lead preservation activities, conduct research inquiries, assist with curatorial duties, and manage the museum's state budget.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Museum Collections, including leading monthly Accessions Committee meetings and hands-on preservation activities.
  • Create and review artifact records in the PastPerfect Online Collections Management System.
  • Administer a long-range Collections Care Plan and contact artifact donors to review and record provenance.
  • Conduct research about the Museum Collections and respond to public inquiries.
  • Assist with curatorial duties, including writing and reviewing interpretive texts and artifact labels, and recommending artifacts for display.
  • Administer the Museum's State Budget by coordinating and tracking vendor and purchase approval documentation.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic curation applications and archival processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of exhibit preparation procedures.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Information technology and computer literacy skills.
  • Ability to research effectively.
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License and acceptable driving record required.
  • Strong organization, planning, and administrative skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with PastPerfect collections database system preferred, but not required.
