About the position

The position involves working as an Industrial Mechanic in a manufacturing facility, focusing on the maintenance, repair, and installation of various mechanical systems and equipment. The role requires a combination of skills in industrial machining, welding, HVAC systems, plumbing, and boiler operations, ensuring the efficient functioning of plant utilities and processing equipment. The work environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate parts by machining, welding, and assembly.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences needed to create products with correct dimensions and tolerances.
  • Create machining and fabrication drawings from clean sheet and/or new or old parts.
  • Rig old equipment out and new equipment into revised layouts for plant utility, processing, and packaging equipment.
  • Load and unload incoming or outgoing plant equipment on and off trailers.
  • Layout equipment installations on shop and/or plant floor.
  • Maintain HVAC systems as required and make necessary repairs.
  • Fabricate and install piping as required and maintain plumbing fixtures.
  • Make periodic checks on the boiler for any problems or leaks and make necessary repairs.
  • Maintain water distribution systems and steam distribution systems.
  • Maintain and rebuild plant pumps as needed and maintain fire protection systems.
  • Inspect building conditions and identify and correct safety issues or concerns.
  • Maintain process equipment such as blenders, bag dump stations, and dust collection equipment.
  • Maintain the upkeep of facility construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Participate in all job-related safety training and comply with safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • A vocational/high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum five (5) years as an industrial mechanic in a manufacturing facility.
  • Skilled in the operation of a forklift and rigging.
  • Welding and machining ability required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles and troubleshooting causes of operating problems.
  • Proficient using all mechanical instruments.
  • Ability to read and write English and possess mathematical and mechanical ability.
  • Ability to repair machines or systems using required tools and install equipment and machines.
  • Ability to read pneumatic schematics and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures, NFPA rules and regulations.
  • Experience in working in a GMP/FDA environment.
  • Black seal boiler operator license or ability to obtain one required.
  • Basic computer skills desirable (MS Word, Excel, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional trade school or continuing educational units in the multi-skilled mechanic field.
