About the position

The AmeriCorps members will mentor youth in media arts education and support them with activities to tackle Environmental Science and Cultural Heritage on the Flathead Reservation through media art/technology. The "SKC Flathead Tech4Good Co-op Project" collaborates with community nonprofits, area schools, and Tribal organizations on personal enrichment and community outreach opportunities for participating 8th-12th graders and Salish Kootenai College (SKC) students. Each fall, winter, and spring term, Salish Kootenai College hosts a "jam" - a weekend of intensive collaboration to work with the client and expert techies and artists to uncover the relevant issues surrounding the community challenge, brainstorm and present solutions, and create art and tech prototypes intended to solve particular dimensions of the community challenge. Throughout the year, the AmeriCorps team will support workshops, focused work sessions, coordination meetings, and gathering community members to get input and feedback on proposed solutions. The SKC Flathead Tech4Good Co-Op project theme will be Environmental Sciences and Cultural Heritage on the Flathead Reservation and they will work with a number of college department faculty and programs, as well as Tribal Fish and Wildlife and other organizations. The leader will coordinate focused work sessions, coordination meetings, gathering community input & getting feedback on proposed solutions, and other professional development opportunities intended to spur the project group forward to the next intensive weekend-long "jam" collaboration.
