About the position
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking law students for an internship within the Threat Prevention and Resilience (TPR) group under the National Security Directorate. This position is designed for students interested in law and policy, particularly in areas related to national security, nuclear nonproliferation, and international relations. Interns will engage in research and programmatic support, contributing to both domestic and international efforts that promote U.S. Government security and nonproliferation objectives. The role offers a unique opportunity to work on multidisciplinary teams and apply legal and policy research to real-world challenges in national security.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to research and programmatic support for TPR programs.
- Work on multi-disciplinary teams to advance laboratory mission activities.
- Utilize technical expertise in scientific, engineering, or policy disciplines.
- Gather, analyze, and evaluate information from various sources.
- Develop creative solutions to national and international nuclear nonproliferation problems.
- Augment knowledge of legal frameworks with practical applications in national security.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a JD program at an accredited college.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Experience with legal and policy research related to international relations is preferred.
Nice-to-haves
- Matriculated in a JD program at St. Mary's Law School as a CONNECT consortium participant.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including cross-cultural communication.
- Experience performing open-source research.
- Knowledgeable in nonproliferation domains such as nuclear security and export control compliance.
- Familiarity with federal organizations like DOE, DHS, DOS, DOD, NNSA, and IAEA.
