About the position

The MSHS Bilingual Family Advocate position at Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a full-time, seasonal role that focuses on building partnerships with parents of enrolled children to support family growth in various development areas. The advocate will work in accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Family (ACF) Head Start Performance Standards. The position requires bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English and involves outreach, home visits, and collaboration with local agencies to ensure eligible children are enrolled in the program. The advocate will also facilitate parent education and support families in achieving their goals through a Family Partnership Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and complete intake forms on eligible children and families through door-to-door outreach.
  • Respect and respond appropriately to the culture, language, values, and family structures of each family served.
  • Support and strengthen the parent-child relationship through parent education at meetings, home visits, and written information.
  • Develop and maintain a team approach with program staff to coordinate family services activities.
  • Conduct home visits to build respectful relationships and understand each family in the program.
  • Work with families to develop and implement the Family Partnership Agreement.
  • Promote and support children's regular attendance by educating parents on its benefits.
  • Facilitate networks and group activities that support families' strengths and needs.
  • Advocate for families as a liaison to program and community services.
  • Support families in making successful transitions to future educational settings.
  • Perform effective recordkeeping and internal reporting tasks using standard forms and ChildPlus Software.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding program, children, families, and staff.
  • Translate and interpret oral and written information for families.
  • Model positive regard for the program in the community.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and care to clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Driver's license with good driving record and insured vehicle.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish.
  • Ability to obtain Family Service Credential within 18 months of hire.
  • Current Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED card or must be able to acquire within three months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years' experience in case management, customer service, or possess a Family Service credential.
  • AA in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling or related field.
