The MRI Technologist performs all MRI procedures in accordance with established department policies and procedures to ensure the best possible patient care services are delivered. Participates in on-call rotation. Responsibilities

  • Performs all magnetic resonance imaging procedures according to established department protocols, including performing the appropriate volume of procedures according to patient load by shift, ensuring correct patient information and technical settings are entered prior to execution, preparing and administering intravenous contrast media, performing venipuncture using sterile technique, demonstrating a working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, processing, recording, and archiving images, completing filming of all cases in a timely fashion, and completing processes to send image data to PACS.
  • Performs all tasks associated with the proper execution of a MR examination in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures, including accepting assignments, restocking and maintaining assigned work area/equipment, assisting in the movement of patients, and participating in on-call coverage as needed.
  • Performs all assigned RIS transactions to ensure accurate patient and procedure information is recorded in a timely fashion for medical records and billing, including completing patient exams in RIS and reviewing/correcting martial and exam charges.
  • Performs visual maintenance checks on all equipment used and reports all malfunctions to appropriate personnel, including performing quality assurance procedures, providing clear concise information regarding mechanical problems and service needs, recording all equipment downtime, and knowledge of MRI safety procedures.
  • Communicates with hospital staff and physicians in the performance of MR procedures to exchange pertinent patient information, including assisting in scheduling, handling calls with courtesy and efficiency, and communicating identified patient related problems.
  • Demonstrates competency in performing all procedures, age range from neonatal to geriatric, including explaining procedures, considering patient comfort, understanding emotional responses, respecting patient privacy, ensuring patient safety criteria for MRI scans, monitoring patients for anxiety or clinical difficulties, and abiding by professional code of ethics.
  • Assists to identify patient and family learning needs and provides pertinent information regarding the procedure that is appropriate for age and level of learning to the patient and significant other, including evaluating patient history for MRI capability and providing verbal education.
  • Completes all documentation forms as required by department, including incident forms, risk management forms, patient education and discharge forms, and MR department documents for patient log, education, and patient history.
