About the position

The Motor Vehicle Title Examiner position at the Department of the Secretary of State involves examining motor vehicle title applications, determining ownership legitimacy, and issuing certificates of title. Responsibilities

  • Examines title applications and associated documents for accuracy to determine vehicle ownership and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Review, verify, and update computer records to match information on documents.
  • Correspond with vehicle owners, dealers, lienholders, and others to acquire missing information or resolve problems on title applications.
  • Identify cases of suspected misconduct and document alterations and falsifications for further action.
  • Research files and vehicle information using various methods such as paper, microfilm, scanned images, internet, and national databases including NMVTIS.
  • Determine facts, detect errors and irregularities, and take appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.
  • Identify cases of suspected fraud and document alterations and falsifications for further action.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment related to quality control of data input and output.
  • Ability to verify, compute, and/or reconcile data on standard documents.
  • Ability to conduct research, gather information, and analyze results to reach a conclusion.
  • Ability to examine motor vehicle title applications and associated documents such as liens, chain of ownership, vehicle and odometer information, and signatures to determine vehicle ownership.
  • Ability to understand and promote management goals as they affect day-to-day operations.
