About the position

The Mortgage Originator is responsible for originating first mortgage loans and promoting the financial institution's products and services to the real estate community. This role involves identifying and serving the community's financial needs through home loan counseling, real estate agent seminars, and sales meetings, while participating in and promoting First Financial Corporation's community activities. The position aims to increase the FFC's presence and competitiveness within a targeted market, ensuring high-quality customer service and maximum profitability. The Mortgage Originator will primarily work in the Terre Haute market but may be deployed to other regions as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed loan portfolio, fee income, and production goals as defined by supervisor.
  • Solicit first mortgage loans within market areas and inform prospective loan clients of FFC's underwriting guidelines and applicable government regulations.
  • Personally interview all loan applicants.
  • Complete each loan application and all pre-processing functions in a timely manner.
  • Screen loan requests based on the bank's policies and types of loans offered.
  • Work with processing team to ensure ordering of appraisals, credit reports, and other necessary information on residential loan applicants.
  • Maintain familiarity with new legislation and regulations affecting residential lending policies and products.
  • Personally answer incoming telephone calls and schedule appointments.
  • Communicate complex approvals and denials to borrowers, real estate agents, or builders.
  • Maintain and submit a source-of-business or other requested business development log within required timeframe.
  • Distribute market data, rate flyers, and general loan information to the real estate community as directed by management.
  • Promote and participate in the bank's special credit programs and other CRA programs.
  • Actively participate in local business and community activities and maintain close contact with local builders, real estate agents, customers, and prospects.
  • Cross-sell other bank products as required by management.
  • Assist target area banking centers with Saturday hours for loan processing as needed.
  • Assist in other regional locations as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years banking experience with an emphasis on mortgage lending.
  • Familiarity with mortgage loan documents and mortgage loan processing.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to read and comprehend training materials and financial institution communications.
  • Ability to learn and follow policies regarding the lending process.
  • Strong customer service, sales, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Liberal Arts preferred.
