About the position

The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for originating residential first mortgage loans through outside referrals. This role involves managing the loan process from application to closing while meeting sales and cross-selling objectives set by management. The officer will develop referral contacts, maintain knowledge of loan products, and ensure high levels of customer service throughout the loan process.

Responsibilities

  • Develop referral contacts including realtors, builders, and personal contacts.
  • Maintain knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies and procedures.
  • Stay informed about available loan products, processing procedures, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Follow defined protocols for escalation exceptions.
  • Complete applicant applications using Fannie Mae form 1003 on a laptop.
  • Utilize the laptop for communication, accessing daily rates, applicant credit reports, and transmitting loans to LOMAS.
  • Collect appropriate documentation from applicants and deliver loan packages within management's time frames.
  • Manage the pipeline for all originated loans through to closing and complete required management reports.
  • Communicate with branches and/or applicants to provide timely updates and progress reports.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service while managing expectations of applicants and support staff.
  • Attend and participate in all Consumer Lending meetings as required by management.

Requirements

  • Three years of mortgage lending experience.
  • Established book of business with local centers of influence willing to refer mortgage loans.
  • Existing mortgage sales of $1 million per month and 4 purchase units closed per month.
