About the position

The Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Engineer position at JFL Consulting, LLC is focused on supporting a Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) program. The role involves reverse engineering facilities and developing methodologies, tools, and products for planning and crisis operations related to WMD threats. The engineer will conduct high-fidelity computational modeling and simulations to assist the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) in addressing complex WMD challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-fidelity computational modeling on Unix-based high-performance computing clusters.
  • Conduct all needed pre- and post-processing, including geometry creation and manipulation, and meshing.
  • Assemble needed material properties for simulations, including chemical properties and thermodynamics.
  • Perform high-fidelity simulations involving computational fluid dynamics, structural dynamics, and other related fields.
  • Build low- and medium-fidelity models of processes and facilities using Matlab/Simulink/Simscape and Python/C/C++.
  • Support System Engineers in conducting system analysis to understand upstream and downstream effects to industrial processes.
  • Support test operations to validate methodologies and tools developed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years in modeling and simulation (M&S).
  • Working knowledge of computational fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, turbulence modeling, structural dynamics, fluid-structure interaction, acoustics, chemical reactions, and/or electromagnetics.
  • Experience working on Unix-based high-performance computing platforms.
  • Experience with multi-physics simulation codes such as ANSYS, OpenFOAM, Sierra, CTH, Peridigm.
  • Experience with geometry manipulation tools like Solidworks, AutoCAD, Rhino3D and meshing tools like ANSYS Meshing, Pointwise, ICEM, Cubit, Capstone.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for producing technical reports and presentations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Working knowledge of utility systems (cooling, heating, ventilation, industrial water, wastewater, power, inert gas, compressed/instrument air, hydraulic, and/or fuel systems).
  • Experience in engineering or utility department for an installation, facility or vessel.
  • Experience in nuclear, power production, data centers, chemical, petrochemical or manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience in industrial plant operations and processing operations.
