About the position
The Mobile Software Engineer position at YouTube focuses on developing reusable and scalable code for iOS applications. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive component-driven development, ensuring a cohesive user experience across various mobile devices. The engineer will work on the architecture and strategy for UI components, contributing to the overall modernization of the YouTube app.
Responsibilities
- Work on YouTube's reusable User Interface (UI) component library, helping to drive the strategy and architecture for the reusable UI components, style, and theme.
- Collaborate with design, product, and engineering teams to build features on iOS that introduce new frameworks and reusable components.
- Enhance the YouTube app experience to be modern and cohesive across all mobile screen types, from phones to tablets and beyond.
- Promote robust and maintainable code, clear documentation, and deliver high-quality work, including designing and building Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that are widely used across YouTube.
- Collaborate with partners and partner teams to build alignment around evolving UI frameworks, processes, tools, and ensure they meet product developer needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development, with a strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- 7 years of experience with iOS application development.
- 5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing/launching software products.
- 5 years of experience coding in Objective-C or Swift.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience building complex Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) used by multiple teams.
- Experience working with cross-functional partners to align on complex problems.
- Experience with Android development and working on User Interface (UI) Design Systems.
- Experience with UI and UX in mobile applications, and developing scalable software.
- Ability to understand and debug large and complex code bases, solving performance, accessibility, and scaling issues.

- Base salary range of $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
