About the position

The Mobile Operating Engineer position at Cushman & Wakefield involves supporting the Assistant and/or Chief Engineer and Sr. Facilities Manager in the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of building systems and equipment. The role focuses on ensuring the effective operation of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, while maintaining safety and energy efficiency standards. The engineer will perform routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and enhance the longevity of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure ongoing preventive maintenance and repair work orders on facility mechanical, electrical, lighting, and other installed systems.
  • Maintain, operate, and repair all HVAC systems and associated equipment, electrical distribution equipment, plumbing systems, and building repairs.
  • Perform major HVAC repairs including compressor and condenser replacements.
  • Conduct major plumbing replacements and repairs.
  • Perform electrical repairs including maintenance of electrical panels and motors.
  • Conduct facility inspections and report on conditions affecting client operations.
  • Operate and maintain boilers, heaters, pumps, and valves for steam and heated water distribution.
  • Maintain and repair refrigerant compressors and air conditioning systems.
  • Repair water filters, softeners, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Maintain elevators and building automation systems for HVAC.
  • Perform maintenance on trash compactors and kitchen equipment.
  • Recommend improvements to the preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintain stock and inventory control.
  • Compile and submit monthly reports on building operations.
  • Comply with safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and perform light travel during such events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required; graduate of an apprentice program or trade school preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of technical experience in building engineering, particularly in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Valid state driver's license and appropriate trade licenses/permits as required.
  • Universal level certification for CFC and HFC-based refrigerants (EPA Section 608).
  • Experience in operation, maintenance, and basic repair of HVAC, boilers, pumps, and electrical systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of energy management systems and techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with tenants, clients, and vendors.
  • Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
