About the position

The position involves setting up and operating CNC mills in a manufacturing environment. The role requires a strong understanding of machinery in the secondary department, including mills, honing, and lapping machines. The candidate will be responsible for assembling parts, verifying part quantities, making machine adjustments, and ensuring that all operations meet print specifications. The job also includes studying part tolerances, deburring parts, and running multiple machines while maintaining quality and efficiency. The candidate will utilize various inspection tools and maintain a clean and organized work area while communicating effectively with coworkers and supervisors. Additionally, the role involves machine programming, creating inspection sheets, prepping for future jobs, and updating process prints and inventory for tools and fixturing.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, troubleshoot, and operate CNC mills and other machinery in the secondary department.
  • Assemble parts as needed and verify part quantity with the job traveler.
  • Make machine adjustments to maintain print specifications.
  • Study and determine part tolerances and methods of measurement for each job.
  • Deburr parts when necessary and run multiple machines while maintaining quality.
  • Use micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and visual checks for part inspection.
  • Maintain a clean and organized department and work area.
  • Communicate with coworkers and supervisors as needed.
  • Determine when cutters need replacement or resharpening.
  • Assist in determining tooling and fixturing needs.
  • Interpret blueprints and complete necessary paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Analyze and improve machining processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Engage in machine programming and create inspection sheets.
  • Prepare for future jobs and update process prints and inventory.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience on CNC machines, with at least two years on mills.
  • Ability to think critically and foster continuous learning efforts.
  • Proficiency in using micrometers, indicators, and precision gauges.
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and develop alternative solutions when needed.
  • Ability to multi-task and adhere to 6S and lean standards.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for up to 5 hours at a time and lift boxes up to 40lbs occasionally.
  • Knowledge of departmental machine capabilities and basic inspection equipment.
  • Basic materials knowledge and communication skills to train others.
  • Basic math and geometry skills, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
