About the position

The Spanish Teacher reports to the Principal and is primarily responsible for planning, programming, and teaching Spanish in alignment with the school's curricular objectives. The teacher will evaluate and report on all students in their classes, establishing a positive and encouraging relationship with students while holding them to high standards. The role requires a commitment to the school's mission and core beliefs, with a focus on providing social-emotional support to students both in and out of the classroom. The teacher will facilitate activities that promote communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, while also modifying instructional resources to meet diverse student needs. Collaboration with peers to enhance instructional practices and meet performance goals is essential, along with maintaining professional and ethical standards in all communications.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, program, and teach Spanish in alignment with curricular objectives.
  • Evaluate and report on student performance.
  • Establish positive relationships with students to support their learning.
  • Facilitate engaging activities that promote critical thinking and collaboration.

  • Utilize technology for communication and updates with parents and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education.
  • Valid NYS teaching certificate in Spanish.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Spanish teacher preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in urban education.
  • Knowledge of encouraging bilingualism and cultural literacy in students.
  • Ability to facilitate strong comprehension and speaking skills in students.
  • Desire for continued professional development.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and flexibility.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality.
