About the position

The Middle School Guidance Counselor at Krum Middle School is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program. This role involves working closely with school faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community to support students' academic, career, personal, and social development, particularly focusing on the needs of special populations. The counselor will provide academic advising, assist in the development of education plans, and counsel students on various issues. Additionally, the counselor will coordinate testing and career interest surveys, maintain confidentiality, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Make decisions based on what is best for students.
  • Teach campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with the district's guidance program plan.
  • Assist teachers in the teaching of guidance-related curriculum.
  • Guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
  • Provide academic advising and high school endorsement selection assistance.
  • Counsel individual students and small groups with presenting needs and concerns.
  • Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
  • Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.
  • Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals.
  • Coordinate testing and career interest surveys.
  • Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately.
  • Plan school guidance and counseling programs to meet identified needs.
  • Implement a comprehensive and balanced program.
  • Educate the school staff, parents, and community about the guidance program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and records.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law.
  • Create, maintain, and support a safe learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas school counselor certificate.
  • Two years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
