About The Position

The Lansing School District is seeking new English language arts (ELA) teachers to join their team. This role is responsible for ensuring students receive world-class instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. Teachers will focus on building inclusive, nurturing classrooms that foster collaboration and allow students to be themselves. The position involves working with other teachers, parents, and students to provide the best educational experience. The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in Lansing, MI, offering a variety of educational options.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or ELA-related field (i.e. English, Creative Writing, European Literature, etc.)
  • Previous experience working with middle school and high school students
  • Alignment with Lansing School District's mission and values

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a secondary ELA endorsement (i.e. BQ or BX preferred but possible to accept other subject specific endorsements depending on exact role)
  • Previous teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Training in CRPBIS and other related instructional methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate passion for and expertise of reading, writing, speech and other secondary ELA content
  • Provide world-class instruction in ELA to middle and high school students
  • Use data to guide and effectively differentiate instruction
  • Learn and grow by incorporating feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development sessions
  • Build relationships with students and parents to ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
  • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
