About the position

The Microsoft Server Engineer position is a Contract to Hire role focused on supporting the Active Directory Team and managing IPv6 integration activities within a leading company in the Washington, DC area. The role involves troubleshooting, designing, and implementing solutions for Windows-based systems, with a strong emphasis on Active Directory management and incident resolution.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the Active Directory Team and for IPv6-related activities.
• Responsible for all IPv6 integration activities for the Windows Server team, including testing, design, implementation, and integration with Windows Active Directory, MS ADFS, and Domain Controllers.
• Work with a team of server engineers to troubleshoot issues across multiple systems in various data center locations.
• Provide support, implementation, and design services for Windows-based systems across the enterprise.
• Resolve and complete assigned tasks and change requests, acting as an escalation for support issues.
• Apply new solutions through research and collaboration with team members, advising on new application initiatives.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Windows Server infrastructure, including oversight of Active Directory.
• Provide leadership to the Windows Server team, overseeing server imaging and Active Directory management activities.
• Manage incidents related to Active Directory.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting of complex system issues.
• Work primarily in a virtualized environment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience administrating and managing servers and systems, specializing in Windows operating systems.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
• Possess a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) - Server Infrastructure or equivalent certification.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder who has resided in the U.S. for at least 3 years and has the ability to obtain a public trust.

Nice-to-haves

• Expert-level knowledge of Windows OS-based computer devices and managing Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, registry, and file system security.
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Multi-factor Authentication, Public Key Infrastructure, and identity and access management.
• Intermediate experience scripting in PowerShell to automate tasks.
• Experience performing dual-stack implementation of IPv4 and IPv6, ideally in IPv6-only environments.
• Experience troubleshooting IPv6 authentication issues with VPN.
• Experience operating in federal government enterprise environments and applying Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
• Experience managing active directories for on-prem and cloud through MS ADFS, Azure, and AWS.
• Experience managing environments of 2000+ servers across multiple field site locations.
