Xcel Energy is looking to fill a Meterman Apprentice 1st - 4th Year for the Amarillo, TX location. Apprentice Meterman job duties will include, but not be limited to, testing, programming, installing, verifying, and removing electric meters. Employee will follow all company and regulatory safety requirements. Employee will work well independently or with customers and with others in the company. Employee will work with multiple computer platforms, various software programs, and electronic devices. Employee will also be required to travel for work and training. Employee may advance to Meterman Journeyman according to the IBEW 602 Agreement with the company. Environmental Exposure: Employee will work in and around energized equipment, confined spaces, vibrating equipment, heights, noise levels requiring ear protection, presence of chemical fumes, and a wide range of hot and cold temperatures. Employee will work with broken glass, various chemicals, and other hazardous materials. Employee may work using bucket truck or ladders. Employee must be able to walk and climb stairs. Work is often on gravel, concrete, slippery, and uneven surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Testing, programming, installing, verifying, and removing electric meters.
  • Following all company and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Working independently or with customers and with others in the company.
  • Using multiple computer platforms, various software programs, and electronic devices.
  • Traveling for work and training.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must have successfully passed the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) CAST test.
  • Must respond to overtime and call outs including weekends and holidays.
  • Must commit to working safely and wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of electric delivery systems is desired.
  • Working knowledge with math background including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
