About the position

The Meter Services Tech D position at National Grid involves performing various tasks related to gas meter services, including installation, maintenance, and customer interaction. The role requires physical stamina to handle equipment and work in diverse weather conditions while ensuring safety and compliance with established procedures.

Responsibilities

• Walk long distances and climb stairs while carrying gas meters, tools, and materials.
• Interact positively and professionally with customers, especially during difficult situations.
• Leave missed reading cards according to established procedures.
• Identify, report, and document unsafe or abnormal operating conditions in the field.
• Install and replace automated meter-reading devices.
• Perform physical locks on gas meters during emergencies.
• Assist other CMS Technicians or Working Leaders as required.
• Prepare necessary reports and participate in required surveys.
• Maintain files and logs, and perform simple arithmetic computations.
• Drive a company vehicle safely for a significant portion of the workday.
• Respond to emergency situations and work extended hours as needed.
• Perform all meter reading activities including AMR and special reads.
• Upload and download meter reading data as required.
• Shut off and lock meters as trained and qualified.
• Perform flood patrols and other assigned duties.

Requirements

• High School Degree or GED required.
• Valid US Drivers License.
• Basic knowledge of tools.
• HVAC, mechanical, or plumbing experience preferred.
• Field experience preferred.
• Ability to pass an aptitude test and physical assessment test.
