About the position

The purpose of this position is to provide high quality mental health care to CSD students and families in an effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards. This purpose is fulfilled through direct screening, diagnosis and case formulation/implementation of treatment plan for individuals, family and group psychotherapy within school based therapeutic spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Assess appropriateness of referral based on mental health program screening criteria.
  • Assess the mental health challenges of the client, and complete a direct screening, diagnosis and case formulation/implementation of treatment plan for individual, family and group psychotherapy.
  • Work with individuals and groups of students to improve skills in decision-making and interpersonal relations with the goal of social/emotional balance and educational progress.
  • Manage a caseload of clinical work, balancing clinical intensity and flexibility based on client need.
  • Consult with students and families, and staff in identifying and solving problems that interfere with school progress.
  • Prioritize client's self determination of treatment while integrating client supports into systems in the schools.
  • Complete required clinical documentation into CSD medical record system or to maintain a medical/ethical/legal client record.
  • Maintain timely, complete and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Provide timely assessments, treatment planning and measurable goal setting; including annual reviews for transitions/termination and or discharge.
  • Provide case management through appropriate triaging and referrals in coordination with clients and families.
  • Assist in transition between elementary and middle school or middle school and high school.
  • Participate in school based teams as an advocate for client's needs.
  • Work with school counselors, dean of students, and administrators as part of a behavioral health responder.
  • Support direction and guidance to administrators and staff through their specific lens of expertise.
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel in meeting diverse social, emotional and academic needs of students.
  • Serve as liaison between school and community resources that benefit students, families and the school community.
  • Create and model a respectful learning environment.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all students and with parents/guardians concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
  • Attend and participate in mental health staff meetings and district inservice meetings.

Requirements

  • Valid PsyD, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent Oregon professional licensure strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
  • Minimum two years of work experience in mental health, with at least one year providing case management and treatment to individuals with mental illness and/or addictions.
  • Experience working with a variety of people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, HIPPA and their application to client records.
  • Understanding of FERPA requirements and the unique records and information sharing process between clinical and educational entities.
  • Graduate course work in theory, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders.
  • Proficiency using DSM IV-TR, DSM V, and ICD-10.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, especially for assessment, formulation and service notation.
  • Experience with community behavioral health, systemic intervention, or public health with youth and families.
  • Experience working with persons who have mental health issues and those who are in emotional distress.
  • Strong professional social and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of human growth and development patterns, learning theory and brain research.
  • Familiarity with a variety of age appropriate guidance, counseling and behavior management strategies.
  • Ability to listen with empathy and understanding to others who have concerns to express.
  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $50,942 to $95,387, prorated based on start date and FTE.
  • Retirement contribution to Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) after eligibility.
