About the position

The Mental Health Technician at Cooper University Health Care plays a crucial role in supporting the Registered Nurse and the multidisciplinary treatment team in delivering quality patient care. This position involves direct and indirect patient care responsibilities, including therapeutic activities, patient observation, and clerical support to ensure smooth clinical operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Registered Nurse in providing direct and indirect patient care responsibilities.
  • Contribute to quality patient care as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Conduct patient care observation rounds and 1:1 observation.
  • Perform vital signs monitoring, control logs, glucose checks, and specimen collections.
  • Engage in treatment planning and patient education.
  • Monitor visitors and meals, and conduct belongings and body checks.
  • Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques to manage disruptive patient behaviors.
  • Participate in psychiatric codes and Code Grey as a team member.
  • Perform clerical functions to support clinical operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health, forensic, or addictions setting.
  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred in Psychology or related field.
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association.
