About the position

This position is contingent on contract award. This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide services outlined below: International SOS is looking for an individual who is an experienced Medical Technologist to perform complex laboratory tests and analysis to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results. They utilize advanced laboratory techniques and equipment to provide critical data for patient care and medical decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine chemistry testing on automated instrumentation (Abbott Architect ci8200, Abbott Alinity, Advanced Instruments Osmos, Polymedco OC80, manual chemistry tests) as well as routine daily and weekly quality control, and instrument maintenance.
  • Perform routine chemistry and urinalysis testing on automated instrumentation (Beckman Coulter Urinalysis, Advanced Instruments Osmos, Polymedco OC80, manual urinalysis and chemistry tests) as well as routine daily and weekly quality control, and instrument maintenance.
  • Perform routine blood bank duties to include cross matching, antibody screening and identification, selected cell panels, processing in blood and blood products as part of weekly issue or emergency requests, and routine daily and weekly quality control procedures using tube and gel technology.
  • Perform routine hematology and coagulation testing on automated instrumentation (Sysmex, ACL Top, Alcor iSed, manual hematology and coagulation tests) as well as routine daily and weekly quality control, and instrument maintenance.
  • Perform routine microbiology testing including manual and automated testing. These duties shall include plating, gram staining, reading plates, subbing plates, Microscan setup, PCR testing, and other microbiology routine procedures.
  • Perform patient and QC testing according to established protocols and active in the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Proficiency Testing (PT) Program.
  • Independently test, evaluate, documents, and report patient testing and Quality Control (QC); identify, documents, and resolve any collection, processing, testing or reporting issues.
  • Positively identify patients prior to sample collection and samples prior to testing or aliquoting.
  • Safeguards electronic and paper patient information.
  • Assure patient-centered care and provide service in a manner that is professional and avoid complaints from all stakeholders and customers.

Requirements

  • Certification as a medical technologist obtained through a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
  • Must possess 3 years of recent experience in chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Board Certification: Medical Technologists must be a nationally certified Medical Technologists (MT, MLS or CLS).
  • All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be always kept up to date.
