About the position

The Medical Technologist (Technical Specialist - Ancillary Testing) at the Long Beach VA Medical Center is responsible for overseeing point-of-care testing and providing technical expertise in laboratory medicine. This role involves advising on specialized testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and improving testing processes within the healthcare system. The position requires advanced knowledge of laboratory technology and the ability to work independently while collaborating with other laboratory practitioners.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Point of Care Coordinator in overseeing testing outside the laboratory.
• Provide authoritative advice and consultation for ancillary testing programs.
• Ensure compliance with local and national policies and procedures.
• Analyze emerging trends and technology in laboratory testing.
• Conduct studies and recommend changes to improve specialty areas.
• Identify training needs for laboratory services and staff.
• Maintain process control through a quality assurance program.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
• Completion of a medical technology clinical practice program accredited by recognized agencies.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by recognized boards.
• Experience in performing moderate and/or high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory.
